Songwriting for Charlottesville

I have been working on an EP this summer. I have also been listening to MAD funk. I can’t get away from those sick bass linez.

Not gonna lie, my motivation to write this summer hasn’t been the greatest. Here’s to better days.

Big ups to the drugged out girl in the corner

This was a song assignment I had to do for my songwriting class. It’s called “Sacred Tree” because the lyrics are actually taken from a Japanese novel called The Tales of Genji. One of the chapters in the book is called “Sacred Tree”, so I named it that as I felt it was appropriate to the passage. The song itself was interesting to make. The teacher wanted the arrangement to be in piano, and I have no idea how to play such a beast. However, after playing around with it for a while, I finally got some catchy sounding chords and went at it. I recorded it on my netbook and amplified the wave sounds and added a tinge of echo, and “Sacred Tree” was born.

The lyrics are something like this:

This life of ours would not cause you sorrow 
if you thought of it as like

which bloom and fade in a day.
